How to check the firmware version of your console?

1. What is the DSi Firmware 1.4.1x?

It is the firmware released at the end of  Sep 8 2010  by Nintendo. X stands for a, e, u, & j.  The new functions in the firmware 1.4.1x:

  • This update provides behind-the-scenes improvements to system performance.

2. What is firmare upgrade for Flashcarts?

As the DSi can upgrade to new firmware which will block flashcarts, it is important for the flashcarts to be able to upgrade its firmware. Otherise, the flashcart will be rendered useless once the DSi has upgraded to the new firmware.

The conventional method of playing media files on the DS console is to use the software named moonshell player. That requires installing the software on the slot-1 card and converting the video files to the DPG format. Direct play back bypasses the file conversion and can play media files directly, namely  DivX, Xvid, Quicktime, Windows Media video, Realmedia, MPEG, ASF, VOB and Flash.
